Wet Room Floor Tiles

One of the most important aspects to consider before buying furniture for a room is its size. Working as a Store Manager at a furniture store, Im constantly surprised by the number of people who spend hours purchasing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise only to find that it doesnt fit in the intended room! Buying furniture without taking the time to measure both the room and the furniture you want in it is a great way to waist time, money, and, worst of all, have crappy looking kids furniture.

Plan a room in groupings. In a large living room there can be a primary seating area with sofa and armchairs at one end and secondary seating, such as a love seat and light-scaled chairs, at the other. Relate the scale of furniture in groupings. Avoid tall wing chairs next to a low sofa, and side tables that are higher than the arms of a sofa or a chair. Keep traffic lanes open. Allow for easy access from one area of the room to another. Dont use a shin-buster of a coffee table in front of a long sofa - two small movable tables are a much better solution.

On the main floor, the laundry room can be converted into a mud room complete with a bench, hooks, and cubbies to keep everything well organized. So where did the laundry room go? Most often the laundry room is moved back to the basement and upgraded with built-in cabinetry and granite counters. Sunrooms and three season rooms are being restructured with better windows and insulation and turned into family rooms or playrooms. In fact, I had a friend who added radiant heat flooring finished with bamboo hardwood. The room was decorated with a dark suede sectional couch, dark wood coffee table, and a black bar table with chairs, complete with candles and low voltage floor lamps to give it an intimate feel. Other rooms like dining rooms or living rooms are redesigned into the home office. Walls are removed between dining rooms, living rooms, and/or family rooms are combined to make spacious great rooms with built in shelving and cabinetry to make wet bars or book shelves.

An excellent way to establish a floor plan is on graph paper, allowing each 1/4 inch on the paper to equal 1 feet in the actual room. Draw the room to scale and indicate the exact size and location of all doors, windows radiators, air conditioners and door swinging radius. Measure each piece of furniture in the room with a tape. Carefully plot the measurements on construction paper or on heavy cardboad, using the same scale that you used for the floor plan. Label and cut out the drawings; then move around the floor plan until you get an arrangement that uses your space and furniture to best advantage. With your graph-paper plan in hand, youll be able to note areas of waste space where you could place a closet, a storage piece, a bookcase, a cupboard or display shelves to display your achievements and awards. Next, you should distribute your furniture carefully. Place the largest pieces - an armoire or a breakfront, for instance - on the longest wall. To save space, keep all large units parallel to walls and avoid placing a piece catercorner. Avoid a jumbled look by keeping all the taller furniture at about the same height. The tops of chests, breakfronts and bookcases should maintain more or less the same line around the room.

With the effects of a downward spiraling economy, more homeowners are choosing to redesign and upgrade rooms to give their home a fresh new bold look.
