Floor To Ceiling Cat Tree

One of the most important aspects to consider before buying furniture for a room is its size. Working as a Store Manager at a furniture store, Im constantly surprised by the number of people who spend hours purchasing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise only to find that it doesnt fit in the intended room! Buying furniture without taking the time to measure both the room and the furniture you want in it is a great way to waist time, money, and, worst of all, have crappy looking kids furniture.

Its now time to begin making your model. I highly recommend sticking to two dimensions unless the height of the kids furniture youre modeling is in question. Make sure to include door and windows in the model, which can be modeled using lines or thin rectangles. The furniture will be represented by rectangles having the same length and width of the items in question.

Before you start drawing this floor plan there are some basic tools and supplies you will need to have. These supplies will make the process quicker and easy. Here is the list: Folder- You need to have something to place all of the sketches, drawings, color samples and everything else pertaining to the decorating. This way things stay organized and you dont end up losing something. Paper- You need a variety of paper for this to work. Normally I use a notebook to write down all my ideas and measurements in. Then I have a sketch book to make rough drawings of the layout of the room. Then I have large graph paper which I use to make a perfect scale model drawing of the room. Writing Utensils- It is important that you have a variety of writing instruments and colors. I use black to draw my walls but then use other colors to represent different things like furniture, pictures and windows in the room. It is also handy to have chalk to use on the walls because it simply brushes away and leaves no mark behind. Measuring Tape- It is essential to have a measuring tape so that you can have accurate measurements. I suggest buying a 25-ft retractable tape for most measurements. However, it is also handy to have a short cloth measuring tape for hard to measure items, like ones that curve. Ruler- This comes in handy when you do your sketches. Normally my rough sketches I just draw without a ruler but when I do my scale model I make sure to use a ruler for everything.

The easiest way to solve this problem is through the use of a floor plan. This will help you to get an idea of how the furniture in question will look in the context of everything around it. One of my favorite tools to accomplish this task is a free piece of software called Google Sketchup. The advantage to using software instead of a paper and pencil is that the computer model will be much faster to build and edit provided you take the time to learn how to use the program properly. After you install this program, plan on spending about one hour going through the basic tutorial thats include. Remember, its much smarter to spend one hour learning to use a program followed by half an hour building your model than it is to spend three hours fighting with a poorly constructed model. If youre planning on doing three-dimensional work, I highly recommend that you go through the entire tutorial, which should take around two and a half hours. Thankfully, its quite easy to grasp due to the high quality of the included documentation.

Once you have your ideas and a basic floor plan, visiting a local contractor is the next step. The more organized your ideas, the better estimation of price per square foot he can give you. He can also make suggestions for redrawing some lines of your home and share his expertise. Another option is to locate a log or timber company and have them work with you on a plan. They are able to provide and exact cost for their packages, thus making your home costs less variable. As builders we do this quite often for potential customers.
